About The Director
Richard Colvin is a museum professional with deep roots in the Central Florida art world. Colvin grew up in Winter Park, and attended Rollins College. After graduation, he worked as exhibition designer in Rollins' Cornell Fine Arts Museum until 1997 (17 years), including accreditation/reaccreditation with the American Association of Museums. He was curator at the Maitland Art Center 1997-2009, and served as curator of art & history at Art & History Museums Maitland until 2012.
Hired in 2012, Colvin said at the time, "In the past several years, LEMA has made great strides in growing both audience and reputation as a museum that supports art and artists, both local and regional." He came to the Lake Eustis Museum to bring his experience and aesthetic judgment to the job of director, in order to see LEMA grow even more, both in membership and quality programming. Colvin believes -- then and now -- wholeheartedly that for museums to improve they must make true partners in the members and community.
Lake Eustis Museum of Art, Lake County's first art museum, is dedicated to the exhibition and collection of fine art and the presentation of museum-quality art education programming to enrich culture and enhance the economic development of our diverse community.
